Vietnam exported nearly 7 billion U.S. dollars worth of wood and wood products in the first five months of this year, up 4.7 percent year on year, according to the country's General Statistics Office on Friday.
In May alone, the country raked in about 1.4 billion dollars from exporting wood and wood products, posting a 2.6-percent year-on-year decrease.
Vietnam's target to have wood and wood products exports increase by 8 percent in the first half of 2022 is feasible given the positive result of the past five months, local newspaper Vietnam Economic Times cited the Agency of Foreign Trade under the Ministry of Industry and Trade as saying.
The country needs to improve its policies and laws on logistics services as well as build modern logistics infrastructure to meet export and import demands, experts have said.
In 2021, Vietnam reaped over 14.8 billion dollars from exporting wood and wood products, which increased 19.7 percent year on year and accounted for 4.4 percent of the country's total export revenue, with China, Japan and the United States among its major markets.
Between January and May this year, Vietnam also spent more than 1.3 billion dollars importing wood and wood products, up 2 percent year on year.
